With the transition of the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport into its new terminal, Manning Architects is planning the future land use of the area surrounding the existing terminal.

The firm is developing concepts for a station and route for the Baton Rouge to New Orleans passenger rail system that will provide a convenient mode of travel for visitors and commuters. The plans call for moving the main branch of the US Post Office from Downtown New Orleans to the airport, taking advantage of the rail system and streamlining the mail delivery process. Additionally, the relocation of the post office would open coveted space downtown near the Superdome for other civic or commercial ventures.

In addition to improving mobility to and from the airport, a significant goal of the project is to maximize the economic impact given the opportunities available at the transitioning airport site.
